tom ellard is the creative force behind australian post-punk band severed heads. in 1982 he self-released two cassettes of solo material, “80s cheesecake” and “snappy carrion”. these cassettes document the transitional period between the early experimental severed heads’ albums “clean” and “blubberknife” before the start of something new with “since the accident”. with the advent of the then new roland tb-303 bass synthesizer, a machine synonymous with the acid house sound, tom began to write more beat driven material. the rhythms are made by a tr-808 drum machine, kawai s100f and sh-1 synthesizers, plus various televisions, radios, cassette decks and pedals. two songs from these cassettes would later appear on the b-side of the “dead eyes opened” single.

this release is a reissue of everydayz ep with an unreleased dub from the vault. all tracks have been reworked with a new mixing and mastering for more good sounds!

after putting 1990s record label emote to bed and a 17 year break from making music mark churcher has now knocked out 2 rasping acid house discs within a year on his new chicago bee record label. the first very well received ep whos this guy? is followed up with the same a eno-acid moniker. this 4 track ep is deeper, darker and even more drugged out. the tracks are slower and longer allowing the listener to be sonically submerged in the reverb swelled acid lines.

this is music that comes from playing records. dj fiskars have done it for 15 years, subconsciously gathering an assortment of ideas, vibes and moments on the job. it’s only now as he’s starting his career as a recording artist those ideas start to materialize in an accessible form on wax. it’s fair to suggest that the record has a day side and a night side. “filippa” is a somewhat balearic piece: on the shelf it lands somewhere between your omar s records and a mario kart disc. on the flip, “key largo’s” mellow yet banging house grooves drop especially well at the after hours party. the release also marks the dawn of fiskars’ new vinyl-first imprint leave the man in peace with his kit – be on the lookout for more releases in 2018.

new yorks marcos cabral steps up for his first full release on dimensions recordings, with the nature walk ep. following on from his epic prochainement masterpiece on dimensions 002, the ep provides a glimpse into the mind of a well-established and hugely respected artist. nature walk is a broad ep that demonstrates just why marcos records have been finding their way into a multitude of djs bags for the last fifteen years. from his work with jacques renault as runaway, and his coveted hamilton dance records output to his more recent deeper and darker leanings for leading labels such as clone, l.i.e.s. and mule musiq, marcos has quietly and studiously worked at developing an impressive catalogue which most folks who have brushed with house and techno will have heard, whether they know it or not. the ep provides a snapshot of some of the tastes and styles that marcos has experimented with over the years, the rolling, energetic and optimistic sounding, not quite house, not quite techno of wishful gives way to the brooding, dub techno of title track, nature walk. cape cod sees marcos in classic, house mode with a cut that could easily have dropped on nycs nu groove records, whereas rice a roni is a no nonsense nugget of twisted, grinding, acid. the ep rounds off with lets see how the light goes through it, a spacey hypnotic workout for the late hours and a fitting end to a stand out ep from the self proclaimed, hardest working man!

by day he guides lasers into position using precision equipment, at night he crafts raw house music. welcome to the unusual world of reflection port assembly. we got to know one another through a few brief, slurred encounters in the smoking area during the fabled forza italo night or at the aptly named gary’s gang. pretty soon it was clear that he had impeccable taste, like that record that featured coil and ice t. one sunny friday afternoon in june, he tore himself away from guiding the lasers and we met up in the city centre. the light breeze did nothing to dissuade the office workers from gathering outside the pub for sneaky post-work pints. surrounded a sea of grey and blue business attire, we agreed to make ‘retribution’ the second release on first cut. featuring three cuts, it spans house, electro, boogie and even some detroit techno influences. but ’retribution’ is more than the sum of these parts. unlike his precision-based day job it’s rough and imperfect, flawed but warm, messy and charming - like a snapshot of every day life in dublin.

bawrut has had an amazing couple of years. since kicking our label off back in 2015 with the modern acid classic ciquita (12inches of which will now set you back silly money on discogs), the madrid-based producer has gone from strength to strength. last year saw him tear down sets at sonar and farr festivals, drop a feted new ep on hard fist records, and have his music soundtrack numerous adverts for fabric events. other djs have been quick to show their appreciation, and bawrut’s unique appeal can be seen in how far and wide across the spectrum his music has featured. optimo, avalon emerson, patrick topping, jackmaster, artwork, andrew weatherall and many more have all supported heavily. were proud to kickstart bawrut’s 2018 with 4x4, a brand new ep of typically leftfield bangers. these four tracks come on like a whirlwind journey through a bawrut dj set, with something for every time of the night. ghettoscar fuses african chants with burbling acid, building the kind of goodtime dancefloor warmth bawrut is famed for. more cowbell does exactly what you’d expect, giving djs a glorious, cowbell-powered disco bomb that fuses the spirit of incredible bongo band with classic nyc house. i hear voices is a crazy ride, with an expertly cut up vocal sample repurposed into a weird, descending riff that’s quite unlike anything else out there. throw in bawrut’s trademark kitbag of carnival whistles, rattling latin percussion and a creeping acid line that works itself up into a soul-salving joy and youve got a modern classic on your hands. finally, lead track three sounds is probably bawruts biggest moment to date, a peak time jacking techno monster built from the most minimal of elements - drums, claps, a one note bass squelch and a tom drum gone wild. bawrut takes this tom sound and treats it like a 303, pushing far off the rails, working it up and up, twisting it through pitch and frequency like a man possessed, raising its pressure til it tears off the roof. theres no one else making techno quite like it - and you can expect dancefloors to be going crazy to the mania of three sounds throughout 2018 so there you have it - four more missives from the wizard of madrid. play em loud.

next cocoon floor bomb! cocoon recordings is back with a bang after the winter break, cranking up the pressure once again. what s more, we re seriously pleased that we ve managed to land johannes volk for the new season. johannes has been making us smile with his productions for more than 12 years and considering his 2006 debut appeared on jeff mills axis label, it s easy to guess which direction his cocoon release is going. there are no dreamy minimal sounds or deep house trips this time round, instead you ll find headstrong techno pumping out of the speakers. tears & walls drives forward relentlessly with its meaty kick and metallic open hi-hats setting the pace. energetic and demanding throughout, johannes volk certainly takes no prisoners! -a little story about time and space- follows in its footsteps although the mood here is notably more detroit, taking us back to productions on cult labels like red planet, metroplex or the axis records sound. volk layers the track with more prominent harmonies and hypnotic arpeggios, giving it a subtle yet highly effective trance touch. the warm analog strings in the middle section underline this emotional impact and make a little story about time and space a guaranteed sunrise song for the upcoming spring and summer season, heartwarming and dance floor friendly in equal measures!

this is the 2nd various artists compilation from the esoteric black lodge collective out of los angeles, showcasing a variety of sounds one is likely to hear at their monthly gatherings. this comp contains a mixture of acidic jacking warehouse bangers from veteran producers tx connect and jasen loveland alongside a more acid chicago house inspired jakbeat track from black lodge co-founder kosmik and an ebm/electro dance cut from the belligerents.

hunee presents a collection of his favorite dance floor cuts from the 70ties till modern times. pressed on 3 slices of vinyl (+download code) biggest tip! going from afro to disco to techno, hunchin all night holds a wide spectrum of songs, tracks by the wonderful boncana maïga, pat thomas, black beat niks, kenny larkin, larry heard, mappa mundi and many more. hunee, aka hun choi, is a korean berliner who has been drawn in music since a very young age. after working in record stores and studying musicology he resided in amsterdam, where he released his debut album hunch music. as a dj he has always followed a hunch, which gave him wings to communicate the music he loves with crowds all over the world. with hunchin all night, hunee expresses his relationship with the dance floor.

the lines you are about read are a laconic introduction to the music of an elusive new musician on antinote. biographical details about him would probably not help comprehend his music and might even seem slightly contradictory with the music itself, as reigi haipa has been produced in reims at least, it would have been much more accommodating if the capital of champagne was located somewhere in-between sheffield and london.

sunlight by herbie hancockis a 1978 jazz-funk, fusion album. it features hancock’s vocals through a vocoder as well as performances by drummer tony williams and bassist jaco pastorius. this was when hancock began heading towards a more mainstream smooth jazz/r&b fusion, similar to fellow jazz-fusion pianist patrice rushen. the album produced a hit-single entitled “i thought it was you”. as a whole the album tends to lay more toward funk than a jazz record, and is reminiscent of much of the electro-funk of the time. this release marks the beginning of the 80s electro-era style that was more refined in herbie’s later albums such as “future shock” and “sound-system”. pressing on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

deepartsounds may be a sublabel of moto music, but it s achieved so much on its own terms over the past decade. now joe lewis is joining the esteemed ranks of the label with even more experience behind him he was recording for the likes of relief records and peacefrog way back when. its no secret when you listen to his jams on back 2 live, where rugged and raw synth lines sit atop tough machine beats. love mystery is plenty tender where it counts, but 9 lives and confused house head towards a rougher end goal for the nastier kind of party.

edwards graceful take on modern house and techno is a perfect fit for trelik, and the german producer sounds comfortable as he unfurls swooning threads of otherworldly music for the tripped out dancefloor. the ogermania mx of mikko is a hazy, string soaked affair pitched somewhere warm and dreamlike, but there s plenty of energy churning away in the lower register. lottery is a more twitchy affair for darker times, all moody bass bounce and looming drones around a shuffling set of percussion. groaning ghosts is the techiest of the bunch, and theres a whole lot of freaked out sound design swirling around in the mix as well. this is simply stunning, highly advanced dance music from a modern day maestro.

octave one announce their new album under the much loved random noise generation guise. the first rng release was falling in dub in 1991 and sounding just as fresh 27 years later, endustry is due for release this spring. something of a new take on their creative process the burden brothers made most of this music on the road while they toured over the past year, using the country they were in at each time they recorded to influence and inspire each track. we were tucked away in so many hotel rooms that we decided to make sure we brought enough extra equipment so that we could set up a true lab to create from country to country and make the grooves that we wanted to experiment with on the dance floor. comments lawrence. this body of work encompasses 7 full length cuts, naturally all with that classic octave one emotion. alkaylze, more than any of tracks on this project, embraced the original spirit of random noise generation in so much as the machine seemed to be really guide the creative process. adds lenny much of the foundation of the composition was very accidental, but inspirational, with various musical devices interpreting data in a very unexpected results. it actually came together quite quickly but things just fell into place so naturally. after touring and making music for decades the spirit and essential energy of the craft is what keeps them eternally inspired to keep creating and touring the globe. once it takes hold of you you cant stop even if you wanted to. says the pair, and so endustry is born.

“another way of falling apart” aims to build a wider audience for singular music adorer, martin jensen, a cosmopolitan copenhagen-born artist whose music follows an emotional route that meanders back ultimately to analogue and electronica inspirations of myriad treasurable kinds. this incursion into lp territory follows a decade or more of jensen s passionate engagement with music as the creative force behind singles on static caravan, and as the co-founder of the label second language (until 2014), for which he was the wings behind the celebrated “music and migration” series in support of “birdlife international”. he has also remixed colleen, dollboy, and ellis island sound.

returning after recent 12” on the cyclist’s tape throb to native fuselab al-90 together with his moscow-based colleague dx2ov starts a new round of his firm advanced tape house with a more complex approach thus even more groovy and wavy. 2 tracks of 4-4 beats, flowing tape layers plus touchy melodies and dx2ov’s quirky tricks for this spring’s floors.

following hammer s stand out release on loft records last year, canna gets the remix treatment by four killer producers. first up, lauer adds his trademark flavour to the already outstanding title track canna , bending the mind with an acidic top line and classic korg m1 bells.the a2 sees supreems take the techno edge off man ray replacing the drums with a more electro tinged style of rhythm, whilst echoing the synths into the back of the mix to let the drums take the foreground. flip it over and you get two reworkings of manaka . firstly, domenic cappello switches the breaksy flow of the original for a more club ready kick to compliment those stabs, in turn elevating the breakdown to greater effect. in contrast, lord of the isles dives deeper into the breaks feel of hammer s original, adding glitchy samples and oddball synth lines to take this one an even more interplanetary tip.

opulence founder s jonny cruz & cali lanauze are back together for the labels third release and their first joint ep since 2012. this four track ep sees the pair give us each their own personal take on the groovy, dark and trippy sound that is opulence. on the a side we see cali lanauzes come around three. simplicity is the key here, all the elements combining beautifully for a deadly hypnotic and trippy head nodder. visionquests head boss ryan crosson steps in on remix duties delivering two killer versions of the original. the first being the galactic mix (vinyl only) and the second his more simple step mix.

dispatch dubplate reaches a milestone 10th release this april, with ukraine’s finest, dub head. joining the elite series, reserved for only the most in demand, unreleased gems, it was only time before his superb talents would lead to a disdub release from the aptly name producer. led by the mammoth “globular cluster” (a heavily requested staple of dlr & ant tc1 sets), #10 also features the dark, sinister “critical mass”, deep rolling progression in orchestra soul and the thumping “little more” as an exclusive track, only available to vinyl buyers. a limited run of 200 hand stamped and numbered heavyweight vinyl copies are available, do not sleep on these, as they will not be repressed.

fourth release on nitsa’s label is a very special one. dj fra and shelby grey, two of the residents of the legendary club in barcelona, are joining for the first time ever in the studio. at first sight ’death proof’ looks like a simple dj tool, but is way more than that: while keeping the same elements for a long time, and just using a beautiful pad and a tuba alike heavy bass, it manages to sound completely fresh and classic at the same time.

after a more than well-received first release, interstate records is back with a shimmering and diverse ep. featuring two original cuts by the label heads dial tone on the a-side, plus two outstanding remixes on the flipside, the record serves as a fitting successor to the label’s thriving start.

black truffle is pleased to make oren ambarchi’s grapes from the estate available once more on vinyl. originally released on cd on touch in 2004 and reissued on southern lord as a limited double lp in 2006 during ambarchi’s tenure as a member of sunn o))), grapes from the estate was a landmark release for ambarchi, seeing him expand his sonic palette beyond the clipped, bass-heavy electric guitar tones he was known for at that point. incorporating subtle layers of strings, keyboards, percussion over a bedrock of his signature guitar tones, in retrospect this album can be seen as the beginning of a broadening and evolution in ambarchi’s work that would lead to his acclaimed, densely layered epics for editions mego, quixotism (2014) and hubris (2016).

concrete welcomes his lastest resident sweely, his ecceclistism pushed concrete music to split the tracks on two seperate sublabels : 3pm for the house cuts and 7am for the more minimalistic/electro tracks : the first part of “les chroniques de monsieur montana” is made of 3 house music bangers, produced by our resident some time ago. raw house vibe, obssessing vocal, “take me to my house” is a strong dancefloor hitter. while “house is home”, with is beautiful piano chords improvized by sweely himself, is an irresistible soulful but modern deep house track.

part 3 of the soul of the automaton series. this is soulful techno, electro with subtle ambient elements and idm echoes, touching the more experimental side of music here and there. bunnik has not completely severed his links with the past but he is unafraid of the future. this is again emotive, futuristic, concise, dissonant utopian glitch music that s equally as good for the club as it is for the soul. constructed on the west coast of holland in the harbour city of rotterdam.

amsterdam based label anagram readies label co-founder sinfol s first solo release in three years entitled pull back . the release, which features four passionate tracks, sees the light of day in the beginning of april. since the launch of anagram three years ago the label has put out a steady flow of releases from artists such as anetha, octual, stefan vincent, elad magdasi and haze. however, the imprint has also acted as the main platform for sinfol s own productions. blurring the line between various subgenres, the dutch artist is an eclectic one and meanders between acid, house, techno and more. the chords and arpeggios set the mood in life off measure where robotic elements rise to meet them, carving the way for result with its oscillating tones, clap fueled percussion and three-o-three licks. pull back is packed with a thunderous energy that s intertwined with sinfol s soulful vocals and ethereal synths, before swaying into deep house territory with exhale . the track s rolling bass, broken drums and twinkling melodies round off the latest instalment on the rising amsterdam label off in a graceful manner.

currently generating some serious heat and momentum amongst dance music aficionados, man power rocks up with a single for futureboogie that further cements the reputation of this rising british producer/dj. the two original tracks are also backed with a remix from ruf dug. alongside his own very excellent me me me label, man power has been delivering diversely epic releases for labels like esp institute, optimo trax, and correspondant. in its original form, barranquilla trifle features rave-lite stabs and deliciously sweeping pads over woody percussion and an omnipresent studry bassline. a dash of acid darkness only energizes the mood, for what must surely be one of the best ‘sunrise moments’ tracks of the year! ruf dug takes barranquilla further on its trajectory towards summertime vibes the sounds of the ocean sea gently breeze over the soca beat, as the ruf kutz main man adds splashes of percussive hits, huge m1 pads, and melodious keys to the party. more 303 business coats kaon from its opening bars, as man power delivers his second original track on the release. an urgent breakbeat and wandering mega-bass soon evolve into thunderous beats and heady synth arpeggios, an almost post-punk funk atmosphere creeps into the bustling yet succinct ambience.

wonderful 70s work from tom ze! the record’s a bit more straightforward than some of his other records from the decade, and has a number of tracks with a samba sound at the base – but there’s more than enough fantastic material to keep the record fresh, and tom’s writing is as great as ever. there’s a vocal group that sings with ze on many of the tracks on the record – but they also seem to sometimes act as a greek chorus, in response to breakaway vocal passages that are dominated by ze. includes the excellent baroque funky number “dor e dor”, plus the tracks “sonho colorido de um pintor”, “a baba”, “o sandalo”, “a briga do edificio italia com o hilton hotel”, and “happy end”. pressing on 180 gram vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.
